medi Therapy Concept Leg Ulcer

Effective therapy chain for guideline-compliant and patient-individual treatment

medi offers a wide-ranging concept spanning from decongestion of accompanying phleboedema to individual treatment for the underlying disease to long-term prevention of recurrence which takes a complete approach in wound therapy.

medi Therapy Concept Leg Ulcer

Effective therapy chain for treating leg ulcers. Patient-individual treatment in three steps.

ulcer leg therapy concept
  1. Decongestion of phleboedema

Often, the patient also suffers from phleboedema. In this case, therapy begins with decongestion of concomitant phleboedema or phlebo-lymphoedema.

  2. Step: Therapy for the underlying disease

The underlying disease needs to be treated so that the wound can heal. In the case of venous leg ulcers, the underlying disease is chronic venous insufficiency. The basic treatment, according to the guidelines, is compression therapy. Learn more.

  3. Step: Prevention of recurrence

To maintain the long-term treatment success and to prevent a recurrence of the wound, compression therapy must be continued. Learn more.

Step 1

Decongestion of phleboedema

During this phase, the main focus is on oedema decongestion and reduction of leg circumferences. This simultaneously helps to reduce the amount of exudate and supports healing of the venous leg ulcer.

With the adjustable compression wrap circaid juxtacures medi offers an alternative to traditional bandaging to decongest the phleboedema in the initial phase of treating venous leg ulcers.

Step 2

Therapy for the underlying disease

Treating the underlying disease is necessary for the wound to heal. In the case of venous leg ulcers, the underlying disease is venous hypertension, which is treated with consequent compression therapy.

Once the oedema has been sufficiently decongested, the patient can switch to the established ulcer compression stocking system mediven ulcer kit for a 24-hour compression therapy until the wound has completely healed.

For those patients who are not able to apply compression stockings medi also offers a solution: circaid juxtalite.

Step 3

Prevention of recurrence

Even after the wound has healed, the underlying chronic venous insufficiency still persists. In order to ensure the long-term success of the therapy and to prevent a recurrence of the wound, consequent compression therapy must be continued.

medi offers the appropriate stockings for modern compression therapy. Depending on the tendency for oedema, round or flat knitted medical compression stockings are used. Many colours, pleasant wearing comfort and medical efficacy ensure that the medical compression stockings are the perfect choice for prevention of recurrence.

Even for those patients who are not able to apply or tolerate medical compression hosiery medi offers an alternative – circaid juxtalite.
