One in six men: Varicose veins and diseases of the deep leg vein system
The Bonn Vein Study I showed that one in six men already has varicose veins and diseases of the deep vein system.1 However, the topic of “vein disorders” is hardly known among men. A man may be bothered by swollen legs, spider veins or varicose veins. Otherwise, venous diseases initially cause hardly any suffering. It is a delusion to believe that “what I do not feel does not exist”. As: If left untreated, vein disease can lead to pain, ulcerated legs, thrombosis and, in the worst case, to fatal pulmonary embolism.
If you have spider veins and varicose veins or suffer from swelling and pain in your legs, you should consult your doctor.
Varicose veins in men: Blatantly insufficient care according to Bonn Vein Study II
According to the Federal Statistical Office, there are around 31 million men between the ages of 20 and 79 in Germany. One in three men is already over 50 years old. Most men value their health. However, very few people are aware of the risks of venous disorders. This is a mistake, because: Bonn Vein Study I proves that many men also have a weakened venous system.1 The basic treatment of venous disorders is medical compression stockings.
Of the male participants in Bonn Vein Study II, only 7.5 percent had been prescribed medical compression stockings at least once (in comparison: 20.3 percent for women).2 Presumably because men only go to the doctor when there are clearly visible signs and discomforts. In many cases, for example, heavy and swollen legs have restricted work and leisure time. Often, however, it is also the partner who motivates her loved one to visit the doctor.
Overcome prejudices and beat expectations – with medical compression stockings for men by medi
First things first: Men are not compression stocking moaners per se. They just don’t want you to see that they are wearing them.4 medi wanted to know this exactly and commissioned the market research company iConsult to survey 300 men.
The result: What men expect
- Appealing look
- High wearing comfort
- Good skin compatibility
- Perfect fit
Men have the greatest demands on optics: The compression stocking must look like normal men’s socks. medi has successfully mastered this challenge. Therefore, medi offers special versions for men.
Depending on the product and the desired effect, medi’s specialists adjust the technology behind the material and pressure gradient to the greatest possible benefit for the patient. mediven active and mediven for men, for example, are two true champions: Both of these have been awarded the internationally renowned iF product design award. The stockings convinced the top-class jury in 2011 (mediven for men) and 2013 (mediven active) in the design, innovation, material and workmanship categories.
Medical men compression stockings by medi – technologically advanced
The therapy for venous disorders is very simple, functional and efficient, because: “Men” may not believe it, but: Medical compression stockings comprise (in contrast to support stockings from drugstores or discounters) sophisticated technology. At the heart of this technology is a highly-elastic thread which is processed into the compression stockings. The precisely applied pressure of this compression thread activates the function of the body’s own transport systems such as the return of blood to the heart: The stockings activate the calf muscle pumps with each leg movement and help the veins to pump blood around the body.
To support healthy leg veins while travelling, when exercising and in everyday activities
What’s more: There are also compression stockings for men with healthy veins. These can be obtained from the doctor without a prescription, and they support the veins while travelling, when exercising and in everyday activities:
