Mothers-to-be have an increased risk of contracting a venous disorder during pregnancy, when the blood volume increases by about 1.5 litres. Their veins have to work flat out to pump the blood from the legs up to the heart. Hormonal changes and weight gain play a further role. One third of all women suffer from varicose veins during pregnancy.

For this reason, eurocom e.V. (European manufacturers federation for compression therapy and orthopaedic devices) has called upon gynaecologists to pay more attention to their pregnant patients' legs.
