Stop the damaging pattern of movement

medi CTS

The best prevention of all is to avoid repetitive movements. If this is not possible in one's job, then short breaks should be taken at regular intervals.

Treatment

Unless other disorders such as rheumatism or joint inflammation are also present, there is a very good chance of recovery. However this depends on whether the movement pattern causing the problem can be avoided or reduced.

The most useful immediate measure is to stop the causative activity as soon as possible. After that, the application of ice packs produces marked relief. The affected joint is immobilised with a splint during the acute phase. Additional treatment consists of anti-inflammatory drugs.

The combination of these two measures provides significant relief of the symptoms. Once the inflammation has subsided, movement of the joint can be resumed. In order to prevent renewed incorrect use, follow-up treatment under the guidance of a physiotherapist is essential.
