Care is so easy

... that it can become as natural as cleaning your teeth.

Washing instructions for correct cleaning of compression stockings

  • Wash your compression stockings daily.
  • mediven compression stockings can be washed in a machine at 40° using the delicates washing programme.
  • Use a detergent for delicate fabrics. Do not use fabric conditioner as this may block the pores and make the fibres stick together.
  • Never dry compression stockings in the sun or on the radiator.
  • Most mediven models are suitable for drying in a tumble dryer (on delicates).
  • Please do not have compression stockings dry cleaned and do not iron or bleach.
  • You can wash your compression stockings gently by using the mediven laundry net.

Washing hints for in between and on journeys:

A daily wash in the washing machine isn't practicable for most people, and it's not recommended for the environment either. Washing compression stockings by hand isn't really that much of an effort, so the hand wash can be integrated in everyday routine like brushing your teeth.

  • Fill the wash-hand basin with water
  • add washing powder or special detergent for compression stockings (medi clean)
  • leave to act for a short time
  • wash the stockings
  • rinse
  • wrap the wet stockings in a towel
  • lay this "package" on the ground and tread it flat so that as much moisture as possible is pressed out of the stocking into the towel
  • then take the stockings out of the towel and hang them up
  • leave to dry until next morning
  • finished!

Why should medical compression stockings be washed every day?

Apart from reasons of hygiene, the compression is reduced slightly by being stretched on the leg and this is restored by washing and drying, which plays a very important role in keeping the individual stocking measurements exactly the same. Only a freshly washed stocking acts on the leg because the stocking loses some of its shape due to the anatomy of the leg and the wash restores it to its original shape. Those who don't wash their stockings for days will not have the required pressure on their legs to enable them profit from compression therapy. Furthermore, the daily wash helps the stocking to keep its elasticity and compression properties for a period of six months.

Incidentally, a second prescription for hygienic reasons is possible if your doctor agrees.
