The Spinomed active back orthosis is used in manifest osteoporosis – i.e. for long term treatment. It consists of a corset and a back brace.
A strap restraint is incorporated in the textile component, which has a supportive role in maintaining the correct posture. The back brace is adjusted to fit the curvature of the spine and is then concealed in the pocket provided in the corset. The brace cannot slip out of place and, in addition, it stimulates the strengthening of the muscles. This gives a permanent bio-feedback effect.
Areas of application
- Osteoporotic bone collapse in the thoracic and lumbar spine
- Hyperkyphosis with chronic back pain
Mechanism of action
- Strengthening of the trunk muscles leads to a straightening of the upper body.
- Straightening of the trunk increases lung volume, so that the shortness of breath often seen in osteoporosis patients is greatly reduced.
- The clear pain reduction increases the patient’s physical performance.
- The tendency to sway that is typical of osteoporotic patients is reduced, which results in a reduction in the tendency to fall and therefore decreases the risk of subsequent fractures.
Easy to put on and take off
Two solutions for the gusset: the gusset is available either with hook and eye or with Velcro fasteners. The latter is the clever alternative for simple rapid fastening and unfastening, e.g. for people with restricted mobility in the hands, or in the event of incontinence.
