There is very little that restricts a patient as much as a disease, injury or operation in the shoulder area.
The shoulder – and therefore usually the whole arm – must be immobilised to prevent movements that will impair the healing process.
One of the most common shoulder diseases is impingement syndrome. This is a narrowing of the shoulder joint space. Bony components rub together and crush the soft tissues, such as tendons or synovial bursae, between them. Inflammation or even destruction will result. In order to rest the shoulder appropriately before or after the operation, the doctor usually prescribes a shoulder support or orthosis (medi Arm fix, SAK).
In the event of a tear in the rotator cuff, this is repaired surgically. A rupture of this kind may, for example, arise as a result of constant wear to the tendon or a fall on the outstretched arm. Here so-called shoulder abduction splints may be used (SAS 15, SAS 45, medi Arm sling).
If a bone fracture occurs in this area, it is usually a fracture to the head of the humerus. This can be treated either surgically or conservatively (without an operation) (Omomed).
