Supports are tight-fitting medical aids that envelop the foot, they are available off the shelf or made-to-measure
Their task is to support, stabilise and control muscles and joints. Supports have a limited period of wear. They should only be used during activity and should be removed when sitting for long periods or at night.
Supports improve proprioceptive activity, but what exactly is this? In order to understand its position in space, the body relies on three different organ systems. The eyes (where am I standing?) the inner ear (am I standing straight?) and the minute signal transmitters located in many places under the skin. These are known as proprioceptors (or sometimes receptors).
These are minute sensory organs which pick up stimuli (e.g. twisting the ankle) process them, transmit them to the brain and trigger the necessary reaction. The pressure of a support additionally sharpens this sense and places the receptors in “attention mode”.
For ankle joint stabilisation, Levamed provides the optimum protection.
