Venous valves

...with and without compression stockings

The vein valves are a non-return valve in the vein. They prevent blood from pooling in the legs.

If the vein valves are damaged or the walls of the vein are soft and stretched, the valves are no longer able to perform their function. Some of the blood stagnates in the veins and varicose veins or chronic venous weakness can develop.

medi tip

Basic therapy against venous diseases are medical compression stockings.

Medical compression stockings are prescribed by the doctor if required, and the patients are measured for the correct fit by specialist medical retailers (e.g. surgical appliance dealers): the user’s leg circumferences are measured in several places so that the compression stocking matches his anatomy exactly.
