Would you ever have thought that of compression stockings?

A dull, heavy feeling in the legs, swollen ankles, tingling and itching or stabbing pains in the legs may be the first signs of an incipient venous disorder

… even before varicose veins or other visible signs become apparent. Because blood can no longer flow smoothly enough back to the heart through the diseased veins, water from the veins is forced into the surrounding tissue. Swelling develops, particularly around the ankles. If you notice this swelling every night, regardless of how you have spent your day, your veins are probably already damaged. If they are visibly thickened, then you already have superficial varicose veins.

Since venous disorders do not get better on their own, if you notice these signs, you should consult your family doctor, who may refer you to a vein specialist (phlebologist) or a skin specialist (dermatologist).

medi Tip

Basic therapy against venous diseases are medical compression stockings.

Medical compression stockings are prescribed by the doctor if required, and the patients are measured for the correct fit by specialist medical retailers (e.g. surgical appliance dealers): the user’s leg circumferences are measured in several places so that the compression stocking matches his anatomy exactly.
