mediven ulcer kit

Measures to treat a leg ulcer

Exercise (active movement exercises by yourself or with the help of a physiotherapist) to relieve blood congestion and reduce pressure in the calf veins, is very important for successful treatment. If the wound is infected, then drugs such as antibiotics can be prescribed by the doctor. Cleansing of the wound and the application of a special compression stocking bandage is carried out by experts (doctors, nurses).

mediven ulcer kit is a stocking bandage system consisting of two components:

  • mediven ulcer is worn day and night and provides constant compression round the clock. The moderate resting pressure of mediven ulcer is well tolerated by patients so that, if used consistently, the duration of the compression treatment can be extended by up to eight hours a day. This greatly accelerates wound healing compared to conventional compression bandages. A special feature of mediven ulcer is the elemental silver incorporated into the yarn material. Silver is a classic tool in wound care because, even in low concentrations, it has a long-lasting effect against a broad spectrum of bacteria. It prevents the production of odours and also works more reliably and safely against micro-organisms that have become resistant to antibiotics (resistant germs).
  • mediven ulcer plus is worn in addition to mediven ulcer and supports and reinforces the compression throughout the day and during exercise phases. Particularly in the acute phase of ulcer treatment, this ensures that the medically necessary compression pressure - as well as a high working pressure - are achieved.

Some people suffer from a leg ulcer for years. Even for these patients, there are good prospects as regards healing: if all the currently available treatments are utilised, approx. 90 per cent of all venous leg ulcers can be healed.

When the ulcer has healed, the doctor will prescribe medical compression stockings, e.g. mediven forte, for long-term prevention and care.

medi tip

Basic therapy against venous diseases are medical compression stockings.

Medical compression stockings are prescribed by the doctor if required, and the patients are measured for the correct fit by specialist medical retailers (e.g. surgical appliance dealers): the user’s leg circumferences are measured in several places so that the compression stocking matches his anatomy exactly.
