The poles
Not all poles are the same: a Nordic Walking Pole should support, drive and cushion. It must be light, energy-returning and non-slip on a variety of surfaces. A special hand strap system is essential for effective training.
The shoes
Good strong shoes that support your movement are most important which, just like the poles, stabilise your feet and cushion the contact with the ground. Special Nordic Walking shoes are best. These can be obtained in sports shops. For beginners, walking, running or hiking shoes are adequate.
The clothing
Running trousers are suitable for Nordic Walking. The functional clothing should be breathable and transport perspiration away from the body.
Heart rate meter
A pulse meter shows you your pulse rate when walking. It prevents you from "overdoing it" and shows you when you can increase your speed. By checking the pulse meter you always reach the ideal rate for burning off fat or condition training – depending on what you are trying to do..
