Lymphoedema
Lymphoedema is a swelling of soft tissue lying under the skin. It occurs when the lymphatic system can no longer transport away the lymph.
The swelling is caused by the resulting backup of water and protein in tissues. The protein can be the reason for a chronic inflammation in the tissues, which leads to the formation of connective tissue fibres.
