Below-knee amputations allow patients to use their own knee joint. With a suitable prosthesis, patients can be expected to perform a moderately demanding physical job.
According to the German Severely Disabled Act, such patients are classified as "G".
Work can be undertaken in all physical positions, although jobs that often involve crouching or tasks carried out in an awkward position should be avoided. Normal work is also possible on uneven ground (e.g. gardening) with an upper socket prosthesis.
