Functional treatment with bandages and supports is one element for successful overall therapy of the patient.

They are suitable for treatment before or after an operation, or as an alternative for patients who do not want to undergo surgery or cannot have surgery for a medical reason.

By shifting and distributing the weight to non-affected areas of the joint, bandages and supports can tangibly reduce pain. Joints are stabilised and the one-sided stress on the joint due to incorrect alignment can be prevented. This influences our own body awareness, so that our reactions are quicker and the risk of injury is reduced – the joint is protected and cartilage erosion is stopped.

Therapy with supports should always be combined with other treatments, e.g. with drugs or physiotherapy. Supports are also suitable for rehabilitation after an operation.

Aids such as walking sticks or shoe insoles may provide relief for minor arthritic symptoms by shifting or reducing pressure on the cartilage surface.
