Excessive force to a joint may result in its dislocation.
This is often associated with tears in the joint capsule and ruptured ligaments.
The symptoms of a dislocation (luxation) are severe pain on movement and pressure, swelling, bruising (haematoma), abnormal position of the joint and restricted mobility.
If a dislocation is suspected, a doctor must be consulted immediately because is advisable that the dislocation is corrected ("reduced") within a few hours.
